The Vikings received recognition from MaxPreps after winning their second straight state title and ranking first in the counrty out of some 17,000 volleyball teams.

The Palo Alto High School volleyball team was honored by MaxPreps for its first-in-the-country ranking on Wednesday.

Paly earned its top ranking after defeating Marymount High School in a thrilling state championship in December. It was the Vikings' second consecutive Division I State Championship, but first-ever top national ranking.

MaxPreps officials visited Paly during the Paly-Gunn basketball quad night as part of its Tour of Champions. They awarded coach Dave Winn with a trophy to commemorate the No. 1 ranking.

The Vikings finished 36-3 on the season. They will lose eight seniors to graduation but look forward to getting back to business in the fall, when the team will have many new faces.
